On April 22, 2024, Renee was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. She began chemotherapy on May 21, and after 4 rounds, Renee was scheduled to have the Whipple surgery. Only 20% of pancreatic cancer patients are able to have this surgery and it is the only way to a cure. Once Renee healed from surgery, she had another 8 rounds of chemotherapy. She completed that in January and is currently completing 27 rounds of radiation. By race time in April, she will be done, and at this time, her cancer markers and scans are showing no signs of cancer.

Right before being diagnosed, Renee began running again after taking several years off to raise her four kids. This race holds a lot of emotion as she crosses the finish line to cancer treatment. She and her 11 year old son, Christian, are training and will be running together on this monumental day!
